How Mang Inasal's unli rice actually works

The exact rules, restrictions, and etiquette behind the chain's signature unlimited rice policy.

Unlimited rice is the single feature most associated with Mang Inasal, and for good reason, it's one of the only major Filipino fast-food chains still offering it. But "unli rice" comes with more specific rules than most people realize.

Which meals actually qualify

Unli Rice is an add-on, not an automatic perk of every order. It applies to qualifying Chicken Inasal meals when you add the Unli Rice upgrade, typically for a small fee over the single-rice price. Standalone rice bowls, Sulitbowls, and non-chicken items generally don't include the unli rice option.

Dine-in only

This is the rule that surprises first-time delivery customers: Unli Rice is a dine-in exclusive. Delivery and takeout orders come with a fixed single portion of rice, since the whole point of the policy is a server refilling your bowl at the table. See the delivery guide for how delivery pricing differs from dine-in.

How to actually use it

  1. Order a qualifying Chicken Inasal meal and add the Unli Rice upgrade at the counter.
  2. Finish your first serving of Java rice before asking for a refill, most branches expect you to clear your plate first.
  3. Flag a crew member or use the table signal (varies by branch) to request another serving.
  4. Pour the achuete oil over each fresh serving, it's what gives the rice its signature golden color and flavor.
Unli Rice terms can vary slightly by branch and promo period. If you're unsure whether a specific meal qualifies, ask staff before ordering, it's a small upgrade, not a menu-wide default.

Etiquette worth knowing

  • Refills are meant for your table's active meal, not for taking rice home.
  • During peak hours, some branches may gently pace refills, be patient, it's not a policy change, just staffing reality.
  • Unli Rice pairs best with the Paa (leg) cut, since the extra achuete-oiled rice complements the marinade's char without competing with a leaner cut like Pecho.

Why the policy exists at all

Mang Inasal built its identity around Ilonggo roadside inasal culture, where a cheap, filling plate with generous rice was the whole point. Keeping unli rice as a low-cost add-on rather than building it into every price point lets the chain hold its base prices low while still offering the feature that made it famous in the first place.
